Mariposa Language and Learning Academy

As we prepare to begin our school year, we wanted to follow up on the messages we have been sending and our plans at Mariposa. Based on our electronic family survey and our phone call surveys, approximately 90% of families at Mariposa indicated that they would like to come back to the building 5 days a week for learning with restrictions and policies in place. Using this data, we have made a plan for students and staff to focus on student learning 5 days a week in our building. Distance learning at Mariposa is an option for extenuating circumstances for students who are unable to return to the school building due to health/safety. If a family believes their child needs a distance learning option due to health concerns or other extenuating circumstances, during our family connection calls next week, they can let their teacher know. Mrs. Hunt will meet with families to evaluate the concern and possibly make a Mariposa distance learning plan for students. Distance learning will NOT be a “bingo card” model like the spring. Students and families will be provided with the grade level instructional materials that align to state standards from daily work in the classroom. Families and students will be responsible for connecting with the school in ways such as ZOOM meetings, phone calls etc. and this MUST occur on a daily basis. The daily support calls will be for students to get lessons or assistance with their work from a certified teacher. Students must be available to engage in possible ZOOM classroom discussions and lessons during their school day from 8:00am-3:00pm. The school will provide the student with the materials needed for distance learning including electronic devices and families will also need to be available to pick up learning materials from the school building. All grading and attendance policies will be in effect for distance learning students. Also, it is highly recommended that if families choose this option, they stay on distance learning until the end of the first trimester. We look forward to learning and working together for the 20-21 school year!

Next week, we will have grab and go breakfast and lunch meals available on Monday and Thursday. Mariposa Academy will be closed for summer break from June 29 – July 17. Staff will return to the building on Monday, July 20th, 2020. Good afternoon families. I wanted to update you on going back to school in August. We received your survey results and we are working on a few different plans. It is our goal, like the goals you shared in the survey, to get our students back in the school building for their learning if that is possible.
